AUSTRALIAN STICK INSECT

Australian Stick Insect at Sterkloop Tackle and Petshop Polokwane

There are nearly 3,000 species of stick insects in the world and one of them, the Australian Stick Insect, can be found at Sterkloop Tackle and Petshop as long as stocks last. They all feed on vegetation and are one of the most popular insect pets.

Hedgehog Tenrec

One of the out-of-the-ordinary pets at Sterkloop this month are Hedgehog Tenrecs, also known as the Lesser Hedgehog Tenrec.

The Hedgehog Tenrec is endemic in Madagascar and lives in sub-tropical and tropical dry forests. It looks the same as the Hedgehogs found in South-Africa but they are smaller, from there the qualification as "Lesser" Hedgehog.

Prepare your edible garden for winter

Herb seedlings at Sterkloop home and garden polokwane
Winter is cold and not many plants thrive in Limpopo this time of the year.

Nature however gave gardeners a great opportunity to garden as well as provide for themselves during the winter months - and you save a bucket of money!

Your March planting list for Limpopo should include:

Bristlenose pleco - the municipal fish

Bristlenose catfish

The Pleco or Suckerfish is a central American freshwater tropical fish that is mainly bought as a cleaner of aquariums as it sucks to the sides of the aquarium and eats algae and dead fish.

There are around 50 described fishes of the Bristlenose which are members of the Ancistrus species.
